In fact, this question is much more common than you might think. Not all of us have precise information about the exact moment of our birth. In earlier years, record-keeping systems were not detailed enough, so it was not easy to know the birth time down to the minute, especially. Sometimes elders in the family give vague information such as “you were born in the morning” or “it was around noon.” So, as someone who is interested in astrology, what can you do in this situation? Let us first make this clear: Birth time is a critical piece of information in astrology. Because the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth — that is, the Ascendant — can change with a difference of only a few minutes. The Ascendant determines the 1st house of the chart and therefore the entire house system. So when the birth time is unknown, the houses shift and the Ascendant can be calculated incorrectly.
However, this does not render the entire chart meaningless. Most of the personal planets such as the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars are not affected by the difference in birth time. Therefore, even if the birth time is unknown, up to 70% of the chart can still be interpreted accurately.
There is a practical method used in astrology: the 12:00 rule. If the time of birth is unknown, the system automatically assumes 12:00 noon. In this way, with this assumption set to the middle of the day, most of the planetary positions are preserved.

The only point you need to be careful about here is that the Ascendant and the houses may not be clearly defined. Therefore, in interpretations we focus less on the question of “which house” and more on the question of “which sign.”
